The person behind Pippi<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

“I’ve never done it before, so I guess I can do it.” These supposed words of Pippi Longstocking characterize GreenTrust’s mindset. Read how Tijs<\/a>, Sjoerd<\/a>, Bojan<\/a> and Kim discovered the Pippi in themselves and how she comes in handy in their work. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan A of Bojan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“When I look at my life, I have often stood in the shoes of Pippi Longstocking. When I was fifteen years old, I chose to study civil engineering. None of my classmates chose this education and my parents were not really supportive either. I moved from home to a rental apartment in another place where I went to live with other students. Everything was new to me: from cooking to supporting myself because I had little support from my parents.” “I took this step with an open mind. I go by my own feelings without worrying about other people’s opinions. This is also how I started living with my wife Nata\u0161a. She lost her father when she was young and her mother in the second year of our courtship. Nata\u0161a was left alone in the parental home. I then moved in with her. In Serbia, this is unusual. If you want to live together, it is generally done in the husband’s parents’ home and not the wife’s. I do what seems best at the time, but I’m not reckless, just careful. Plan B is also ready should something not work out.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That’s how it was when I happened to see the job opening at GreenTrust. Until then I was drawing buildings in AutoCAD, now I have to draw wind farms and solar farms and do analysis in GIS, a totally different program. Luck follows those who have courage. I am lucky to think the same way as Pippi.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kim never sees bears on the road<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“I’m always up for trying something new or discovering something new. Sometimes I run into the fact that something is not as easy as I had thought of beforehand, but I don’t think in advance ‘I’m not going to succeed’.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a child, I already had that. I played outside a lot and liked to climb trees. I lived in a neighborhood with houses under construction and I could often be found there. From the second floor I jumped right into a sand mountain. I didn’t see the danger, clambering in and on everything. In a climbing forest, that girl of those days still comes up.”“When I just had my driver’s license for a few weeks, I took a trailer with a boat to Greece by myself. Without wondering how to do it and whether I could do it; I just go. In my job, I have the same thing. As an office manager, I encounter things every day that call for a solution: from organizing an event to implementing a new system. In the beginning of GreenTrust, I had to figure out for myself how best to structure processes, but I found that just fine and challenging. I grew with the company.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nothing is too crazy for me. Don’t think too hard: that’s my tip for more Pippi. If you try something out of enthusiasm, you make it lighthearted for yourself. And have faith that you will succeed, with help if necessary. I also try to teach my children that if they have never done something before, they should try it. Only then can you say whether you liked it or not.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sjoerd’s bow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“The arrival of a wind or solar farm often evokes resistance, which is understandable. People worry about its impact on their enjoyment of their homes. As a renewable energy consultant, I try to remove most of the resistance. Not by trivializing the problem, but by taking everyone’s story seriously and listening carefully. Any resistance needs time, care and attention. You have to leave your ego at home to have an honest conversation. I experienced this myself when I made the choice to recover from my addiction. The road to recovery lay open only when I looked at my own pain and the pain I caused others.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After my discharge from a clinic, I started following the 12 steps of the CA (cocaine anonymous) program. One of the steps is that you write down who you have hurt in your life and who you want to make amends with. I went by the people on my list to talk about what I had done to them. Sometimes I carried a haystack full of resentment with me. By asking forgiveness and laying down my part in all the vulnerability with the accompanying pain and sorrow that was there, something happened on a soul level. All the resentment was gone! Space was created for my own healing and taking the next steps. I have been at the twelfth and final step for some time now, helping other addicts with the process of looking at themselves and moving step by step down the path that ultimately leads to accepting yourself and finding your own power.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hoist of Tijs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“I worked for a crane company in Cura\u00e7ao but did not have a diploma to operate a crane myself. I was arranging to win contracts for the use of cranes. Until my boss, was indisposed while a job was scheduled to lift concrete wall panels for the hospital. Driving a crane I already did because I have a big driver’s license, but hoisting I had never done before.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It involved a large crane, a 200-ton Grove GMK5200. Operating a crane is multitasking. You have to pay attention to the ground before the outrigger, the outrigger itself, the weight of the object to be hoisted, the distance to the objects and the extension of the mast. There are more people doing this, I should be able to do it too, I thought. And I had a very good rigger who helped me with fixing the gable plates and hoisting. After two days we were done and more lifting crane jobs followed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I also jumped into the deep end when I joined GreenTrust as construction manager. I supervised the construction of Windpark Eemshaven Zuidoost. There was a lot against it because the wind turbine manufacturer had just been taken over and the type of wind turbine was new to the new owner. How to apply for permits? How do we build roads? How do we build wind turbines with a climbing crane? All questions I had to answer. Despite all the stress at the time, the nice feeling prevails that I got this job done and in the process also gained a lot of knowledge that I still apply to complex construction projects.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
