Charging stations help with energy challenge transportation and construction sector <\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The transport and construction sector faces a major challenge: to become more sustainable. This is not only important for the future of the planet, but also an essential European objective. GreenTrust is working on several projects with the aim of providing innovative solutions for the transport and construction sector. Developing loading docks is the basis here. GreenTrust knows where the generation is and whether a charging plaza can be developed from a nearby wind or solar farm, for example. <\/strong> European target for construction and transport sector<\/strong> Europe has set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the transport sector playing a crucial role. In addition, due to tightened nitrogen regulations, infrastructure projects are increasingly being tendered without emissions. In line with the European Green Deal plan, Europe must reduce CO2 emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels by 2030. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that the transport and construction sector must drastically reduce its dependence on fossil fuels by turning to electrification and, in some cases, CO2-free fuels. Domestic transport is one of the most CO2 intensive sectors, making this sector more sustainable is therefore one of the main pillars for achieving the European Union’s climate goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why charging stations?<\/strong> The initial cost of electric vehicles, combined with limited charging infrastructure, makes the transition to electric transport on a large scale challenging. Still, it is clear that fossil fuel costs will rise in the future due to increasing taxes and regulations, making the transition to electric vehicles all the more urgent. Heavy-duty transportation charging stations not only help accelerate the electrification of the transportation and construction sectors, but they also play an important role in managing grid congestion and provide the necessary capacity to enable the arrival of heavy-duty electric vehicles of the future. There are three main reasons why loading docks are essential to making the transportation and construction industries more sustainable: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Electrification of vehicles<\/strong> The transportation and construction industries need to electrify, but this can only happen if there is sufficient capacity available. This is often a bottleneck, but fortunately there is capacity available in certain locations that is not fully utilized. Charging plazas offer the opportunity to use and share that capacity more efficiently, enabling the transition to electric vehicles. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. Grid congestion<\/strong> One of the biggest challenges in heavy vehicle electrification is grid congestion. The demand for electricity is increasing dramatically, especially at business parks with a lot of logistics activity. Depot charging – charging at your own company, distribution center or customer – is therefore not possible in many cases. Local charging plazas offer a solution and, in doing so, can also help smooth out power peaks in the regional power grid. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. Location<\/strong>The Proper location of a charging station not only ensures that local charging demand is met. Placement near strategic routes also creates a nationwide network of charging stations. As a result, long-distance haulers no longer have to worry about having nowhere to charge either. And by using extra fast chargers, trucks or work vehicles don’t have to wait long for a full battery either, allowing them to continue on their way quickly. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
