Wind park Krammer
Largest Citizens’ Initiative in the Netherlands
Wind park Krammer is the largest citizens’ initiative in the Netherlands. on and around the Krammer locks, the nearly 5,000 members of cooperatives Zeeuwind and Deltawind have developed a wind park with 34 wind turbines. The wind park has an installed capacity of 102 MW, providing enough power for over 100,000 households. The power is purchased directly by Nouryon, DSM, Google and Philips.
By and for the region
Wind park Krammer is unique in many aspects. This starts with its cooperative nature. As an initiative of Zeeuwind and Deltawind, the wind park is truly by and for the region. A Wind Fund has been established to finance sustainable projects in the region. Additionally, a bond loan was issued specifically for members and direct residents.
Technical masterpiece
In addition, the location of wind park Krammer is unique. It is built on a primary dam and surrounded by Natura2000 areas. This made both development and construction challenging. With the help of four tower cranes and special sheet pile structures, among others, the park was built on and around the Krammersluizen locks. The first pole went into the ground in 2017. In May 2019, the wind park was officially opened by King Willem-Alexander. Curious about images from the origins of Windpark Krammer to its completion? As (former) director of wind park Krammer BV, I had been involved in the project since 2013. I think it’s incredibly impressive that citizens have managed to realize such a large project in such a unique location.
