Wind Park Waardpolder

More efficient through redevelopment

In the Waardpolder in North Holland, 19 wind turbines have been replaced by six larger wind turbines (Nordex N131 type). Since 2020, these have been supplying enough electricity annually for about 22,000 to 24,000 households.

From nineteen to six wind turbines

In 2006, the surrounding landowners of a Nuon Wind Park in the Waardpolder (municipality of Hollands Kroon) united in the BV WP Energiek. They bought the park with the ambition to redevelop it with more efficient wind turbines. After a long procedure for restructuring, the project financing was completed in 2018. Construction began in 2019. The 19 old Nedwind turbines have been replaced by six larger wind turbines (Nordex N131 type). Since 2020, the park has been operational and provides enough energy to supply about 22,000 to 24,000 households with electricity annually. More information about the project can be found via the website of WP Energiek.

I think Wind Park Waardpolder is a bold project. Local residents uniting and together buying and restructuring a wind park: that’s truly entrepreneurial! Completing the financing was a challenging process, both for me and for the initiators. But in the end, thanks to real North Holland perseverance, we succeeded and the six wind turbines are spinning!
