Festive start of construction of wind park A2 Lage Rooijen

The construction of wind park A2 Lage Rooijen has officially started. On Tuesday, April 15, the first pile was symbolically struck amid great interest. A milestone for the wind farm that is being created with the efforts of the local cooperative, residents.

The wind park consists of three wind turbines and is an initiative of GreenTrust, Coƶperatie Bommelerwaar and Coƶperatie Deltawind. Together we are committed to local, sustainable energy generation – with and for the inhabitants of the Bommelerwaard.

The honor of driving the first pile was given to Luuk de Bok and Kiki Kossman, two concerned residents who have been volunteering for the project for years. Among those present, besides local residents, were Alderman Bart Claassen of the Municipality of Maasdriel and many local investors.

Councilman Claassen expressed his pride:

“It is extraordinary to see a citizens’ initiative lead to such a concrete result. This project not only provides renewable energy, but also a valuable contribution to our energy goals.”

Tijmen Keesmaat, director of the wind park, also looked back on the origins of the project:

“We have taken our responsibility. For the energy transition. For clean air, now. Not with banners, but with actions. By doing.”

Construction has really started now. The foundation piles will be driven until mid-May and the concrete will be poured from mid-April until June. All work is being carried out with the environment and safety in mind. For example, the transport routes have been coordinated in consultation with the municipality and speed limits have been set to limit inconvenience. Wind park A2 Lage Rooijen is a local initiative in which cooperation and trust are central. The generated energy and revenues stay in the region, and the project contributes to biodiversity and connectedness. A great example of how we can build a greener future together.

A toast to the start of construction, with Alderman Claassen and Remco Reijke (chairman cooperative Bommelerwaar).

Wind park A2 Lage Rooijen is an extraordinary local initiative in which cooperatives Bommelerwaar, Deltawind and GreenTrust generate green energy and keep the revenues local. Built by and for citizens, with respect for the river landscape and nature, the park shows what cooperation and belief in one’s own power can achieve. By involving local residents and working nature-inclusively, the project contributes not only to renewable energy, but also to biodiversity and local connection. It is an example of how we can build a greener future together.
