Cooperative wind park A2 Lage Rooijen

Booster of sustainability

Since 2017, Cooperation Bommelerwaar and GreenTrust have been working on a cooperative wind park at Lage Rooijen, directly east of the A2 motorway. In January 2026, the three turbines will be officially completed. With the three wind turbines, the park will then generate enough local green energy for about 10,000 households. And is thus booster of a sustainable municipality of Maasdriel.

Together for the wind: a successful campaign

Cooperative Bommelerwaar is 50% owner of the wind farm. To finance the construction, the cooperative needed a total of 3.5 million euros. Thanks to more than 200 enthusiastic residents and entrepreneurs from the region, an amount of over 1.2 million euros was raised. Energy cooperative Deltawind supplemented the remaining amount. This allowed construction to start and enabled cooperative Bommelerwaar to acquire sufficient additional capital to repay the sister cooperative shareholder at a later date. Interest and investment conditions remain the same for current bondholders.

A smooth construction period

Construction of the cooperative wind park began after the summer of 2024. After ground work and construction of crane stands and access roads, the foundations were built in the spring of 2025. The installation of the large turbine components went smoothly so that construction was fully completed by the end of 2025. In January 2026, the turbines were officially handed over to GreenTrust and the cooperatives.

This project is one of the most interesting projects for which I did technical design. This is due to its location near the highway and along the Maas River and the levee with protection zones. In particular, the location of the T1 turbine is close to the dike. Together with the steep ramp to the embankment, this made it complicated but challenging to design access for transporting the turbine components. I made many so-called cross-sectional drawings. Through this project I also learned all kinds of new terms such as summer and winter levels, inside bottom pipe and other terms around dams with culverts and the different levels of protection.

Role GreenTrust

As project director, Tijmen is ultimately responsible for the wind park. As project leader, Jorick is involved in the spatial procedures and the permit process and Joost led the project. Bojan made the technical design and Romana did the revenue calculations. Lieuwe dealt with the Business Case and a PPA, while Lisa took care of the legal part. Stan supervised the construction. Eva and Christine took care of communications. Frank and Anja helped with financial close and take care of administration during construction and management. Richard manages the wind farm.
