Wind Park A2 Lage Rooijen

Driving force for sustainability

Sinds 2017 werken Coöperatie Bommelerwaar en GreenTrust aan een burgerwindpark op Lage Rooijen, direct ten oosten van de A2. Naar verwachting draait Burgerwindpark A2 Lage Rooijen eind 2025. Met drie windturbines wekt het park dan voldoende lokale groene energie op voor zo’n 10.000 huishoudens. En is zo aanjager van een duurzame gemeente Maasdriel.

Together for the wind: A successful campaign

Coöperatie Bommelerwaar owns 50% of the wind park. To finance the construction, the cooperative needed a total of 3.5 million euros. Thanks to more than 200 enthusiastic residents and entrepreneurs from the region, an amount of over 1.2 million euros was raised. Energy cooperative Deltawind supplements the remaining amount. This allowed construction to begin and enables Coöperatie Bommelerwaar to acquire sufficient additional capacity to repay the sister cooperative shareholder at a later date. For current bond holders, interest rates and investment conditions remain the same. The construction of the Citizen Wind Park started after the summer of 2024. If everything goes well, the park could be operational from the end of 2025.

This project is one of the most interesting projects for which I have made a technical design. This is due to its location near the highway and along the Maas river and the flood defense dike with protection zones. Especially the location of the T1 turbine is close to the dike. Together with the steep access road to the dike, this made it complex but challenging to design the access for transporting the turbine components. I made many so-called cross-section drawings. Through this project, I also learned various new terms such as summer and winter levels, inner bottom of pipe, and other terms related to dams with culverts and the different protection levels.

Rol GreenTrust

As project director, Tijmen is ultimately responsible for Citizen Wind Park A2 Lage Rooijen. Jorick, as project manager, is involved with the spatial procedures and the permit process, and Joost led the project. Bojan created the technical design and Romana did the yield calculation. Lieuwe dealt with the Business Case and a PPA, while Lisa took care of the legal part. Stan supervises the construction and Eva and Christine handle the communication.
