Citizen Wind Park Spinderwind
11 energy cooperatives together
In 2018, the members of 11 energy cooperatives in the municipality of Tilburg and the Hart van Brabant region initiated a wind project in Tilburg, together with Energiefonds Brabant. Since April 2020, the four wind turbines of the wind park have been generating enough sustainable electricity for 7,500 households.
Participation through Spinderdelen
Citizen Wind Park De Spinder U.A. is 50% owned by citizens. The other 50% is owned by Energiefonds Brabant. In 2018, 691 cooperative members bought so-called Spinderdelen (Spinder shares) and together raised 1.5 million euros for the citizen wind farm. The investors receive a good return on their Spinderdelen. Additionally, their participation supports local energy cooperatives in other sustainable projects.
The Spinderwind wind park has been operational since April 2020. The wind turbines now generate as much sustainable electricity as 7,500 households consume. Want to read more about this citizen project? You can do so via the project website.
GreenTrust’s Role
As construction project manager, Stan was involved in the civil tender and supervised the construction. Klaas contributed to the financing and contracting, and Lieuwe worked on the PPA. Tijmen and Jorick jointly managed the permitting process. Furthermore, Annelies performed various legal activities and Romana was responsible for the technical design. Finally, Filippos and Senne are now responsible for operational management.

This is a special project for me because it was my very first project for GreenTrust! And also my first experience in wind energy. I was immediately thrown into the deep end with such a complex development site. There are many stakeholders, and the project was located on an existing industrial site. We had to take into account various business activities that continued as usual. Additionally, we dealt with contaminated soil. Plenty to learn for me – with a great result!
