Optimizing wind parks by installing controllers

At almost all wind parks under our management, we have installed controllers. These make it possible to give the energy suppliers (aka the PPA parties) more control over the production capacity of the wind parks. The controllers enable the wind parks to limit their production at different times and control it by power, which is also called “curtailment” or “reduced power.
We can do this quickly and efficiently because of our good relationship with the suppliers and our knowledge of the various systems. Making good agreements is important here. For example, we ensure that agreements in PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) are optimized so that the wind park can benefit from the additional flexibility. This includes various products such as the imbalance market, negative price blocks, congestion management and an improved production profile.
Reducing production occurs, for example, when there are negative imbalance prices or when the energy market has price blocks of 6 hours or longer with negative electricity prices. When this is the case, the energy production of the wind parks is often reduced, since generating power at that time is not reimbursed through the SDE (Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production) and it may even incur costs for the wind park.
By installing these controllers, we save costs for wind parks and the business cases are better. It also contributes to more efficient use of energy parks and helps flexibility within the energy market.
