Wind park Cahermurphy

Originated in Irish pub

It often blows hard in Cahermurphy, Ireland. A great place, then, for a wind park. There are now three Enercon E92 wind turbines and a fourth turbine will be added in 2025. Among other things, GreenTrust is providing the technical design, construction and management here.

Lots of wind

Wind park Cahermurphy is owned by the Murphy family and a number of other local landowners. There are now three wind turbines with a shaft height of 85 meters and a rotor diameter of 92 meters. Relatively low, but thanks to the high wind speed of around 9 m/s at this location, the turbines can power as many as 7,000 households.

Padraig Howard handled the development of the wind farm and served as liaison to GreenTrust. Construction began in 2018, with the three wind turbines completed in 2020. Jack Hennessy made sure it was done safely and properly.

Via, via…

This park is proof of the power of networking. Klaas had been working on various projects in Ireland since 2004. It started with the Bally Water project, which came to Klaas via Pim de Ridder (Izzy Projects). In fact, Pim had met a man in an Irish Pub who “did have some land and also a grid connection. Then when they went to Aurich in Germany, they met another Irishman, Padraig Howard, on the train. That one wanted to develop a wind park, and it ended up being Cahermurphy. Conclusion? All good ideas start in an Irish Pub!

The location of this wind park is fantastic, of course. Next stop New York, from the site you can see the Atlantic Ocean. Besides, this is really an “Irish project in an Irish way. The success of this project lies in the warm relationships and networking. From an Irish Pub to “the man on the train” in Aurich to a wind farm in Cahermurphy, it can only be done in Ireland.

Role GreenTrust

Cahermurphy is a clear example of good teamwork. Klaas was contract manager and involved in development, Tijs worked as site manager during construction. Lieuwe handled the financing and Romana handled the technical design. Joost did the project management of both the construction of the wind park and the grid connection. For the occasion, we had an additional GreenTruster: Jack Hennessy. He made sure the farm was built safely.

Management and annual inspections are still in the trusted hands of Filippos, Richard and Kazim.
