The Blue Gate

Solar meadow De Blauwe Poort is located in the municipality of Laarbeek. The park will receive addition of a battery storage system. This can store 2 MW of energy. GreenTrust is working on a request in principle and calculating the revenue model.

Energy Storage

For now, we assume a storage system with a 2 MW battery. Installation of the battery may not be possible until early 2025 at the earliest, as delivery times for batteries are long.

When selecting the battery type, we consider both power and capacity. Compare a battery to a bottle of water. The size of the bottle’s opening determines the power, or how fast or slow the water runs out. The size of the bottle itself determines the capacity. Translated to the battery: how long it can deliver power. These parameters also determine how quickly the bottle can be refilled. This can range from ten minutes to as much as ten hours. The power to capacity ratio largely determines what you can best use the battery for. A battery with greater power and capacity is, of course, more expensive. The optimal proportions vary from project to project.

Sun, water and nature

Zonneweide De Blauwe Poort is located next to the nature reserve of the same name in the municipality of Laarbeek. Sun, water and nature contribute to the sustainability of the region at this location. The project is an initiative of GreenTrust in partnership with local landowners. Brabant-based Eigen Energie stepped in as a partner for construction. The solar meadow was developed in consultation with people in the area, such as Stichting Platform Duurzaam Laarbeek and cooperative Laarbeek Energie.
